Author: Judith Chimes
Publisher: Twenty or Less Press
Format: PDF 17 pages

Summary:

What’s more fun than a trip to Grandma’s house for the summer? What about a mystery?

When Will, Joey and Perry hear the cornfield they pass on the way to Grandma’s is strange and wonderful, they can’t resist the temptation to explore. And in the heart of the field, they discover an amazing secret.

Who will believe their tale? If anyone will, surely it will be Grandma…

My Thoughts:

The Strange And Wonderful Cornfield written by Judith Chimes is a lighthearted short story. It was a quick fun read and I really enjoyed the fact that there was no conflict in the book. It was just good clean fun which makes for a really great bedtime story. The length is nice for children I would say 9 – 12 if they are going to read it themselves and even younger then that if you are going to read to them. There are a few small pictures throughout the book that were excellent and went perfectly with the story.

My son really liked this book and especially enjoyed the surprise that the cornfield had to offer. He thought it was funny and exciting. Though this book was a little longer than what we are used to he didn’t want me to stop reading. It definitely got a thumbs up from him. I will mention that my on is 3 but he has an amazing attention span when it comes to books. This book may not be right for other children his age. Because there is a lack of color and no full page pictures I would say about 5 and up.

My only complaint (and it is such a small one), is that the author used to word “said” way to many times. But that shouldn’t deter anyone from reading this or sharing it with their kids.
