Wow! I. Loved. This. Book. I am a huge fan of the fantasy genre especially epic fantasy or high fantasy. It’s my genre of choice so believe me when I say that it’s really hard for me to find something unique. Well Deliverer by Jason D. Morrow delivered just that.

Creating new unique races and the whole new world of Marenon was one thing but it’s how you get to Marenon that is really unique about this book. I’ve never really come across this concept in the fantasy genre before. Then again I haven’t really read a lot of high fantasy novels that start out on planet earth either. Though you will find the typical cast of characters (the hero, magic user, thief etc) it didn’t bother me at all because to me, it wouldn’t be fantasy without it. The characters have great back stories, especially Julian who is a lot more complicated then originally anticipated. Their back stories are also very creative and I can’t wait to find out more about them. Which I hope I will find in the next book The Gatekeeper. Overall this was a very well thought out adventure that really makes me think of the Dragonlance series or The Belgariad by David Eddings – whom I LOVE. I’m really not sure how long this series is going to be but something tells me that when it comes down to it I wont really want it to end.

I would recommend this book for ages 12 and up. There was a bit of gore in the beginning that surprised me but the language was clean and there is little to no sexual content in the book.

The Deliverer is book one in the Marenon Chronicles and I am very excited to continue the series!

I was in no way compensated for this review. I was provided a copy of this book free of charge for review but the opinions expressed are 100% my own. Please see the disclosure policy for more information.
