Book Review: Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns About Bullies

Howard B. Wigglebottom Author Howard Binkow

Bullying. Something that every parent has to deal with. Whether their child is the bully or is being bullied its something we all have to confront at one point or another. In the case of my son who is 3. It’s a little bit of both. When opportunity presented itself to review a Howard B. Wigglebottom book I just knew that this was the book for us.

Howard Binkow writes in a was that is very clear and easy for children to understand and the bold pictures add to the story with eye catching detail. This book has several themes including dealing with bullies and overcoming the fears of being a so called “tattle tail”.

My sons feelings towards the book were of understanding. It really helped him to see that being a bully is bad. We discussed the pictures and what was happening in the book. He very clearly knows what a bully is and he does not want to be one.

At the end of the book there is a section for Lessons and Reflections. It talks about how to deal with bullies and gives parents and teachers ideas to encourage children to report bullying. This is a fantastic resource because sometimes you don’t really know how to approach something and I found it very helpful and informative.

Overall I will continue to read this book to my son and to my daughter when she is older. With all the bullying out there today we need books like this to teach are children when they are young the difference between right and wrong and hopefully we can shape them to be good people. BULLYING IS NOT OK! Kids need to learn that its OK to tell someone about it. You are not alone.

This sounds like a great book for kids. As a matter of fact, I know a little boy who would really like this one!

  2. This sounds like a great book and discussion starter on the subject. I am glad to see that it is approaching the subject at a young age where kids can start to understand. I think it would also be great to use as a review tool from time to time as a reminder about bullying.

  3. We love this series. I have never read this one, but it definitely sounds like it would teach some great lessons on how to handle bullies

  4. Lorayne Gothard says:

I love these books but haven’t seen this one. I really want to teach my daughters the importance of not only not being a bully but also not allowing someone to bully you. This is one I will definitely buy!!

  5. This sounds GREAT! I’m a school librarian and this sounds like one I need for our students and staff to read in their classrooms. Such an important “hot topic” issue these days…thanks so much for taking the time to review it!

  6. I wish all kids could/would read this.

  7. I have heard of this series but have yet to share them with my daughter. We enjoy reading books and watching TV shows/movies together. We often discuss them and she always has a million questions/comments.

She already knows bullying is wrong and hurtful and to report it.

  8. Mary Preston says:

What a fabulous book. Bullying has become almost like an epidemic. So important to talk about it.
