My daughter and I scope out the sale ads and make a list of what we want/need. We stock up on really good deals that we know we will need later on in the year.
My only advice is to make sure to match up coupons with the store sales! That, and follow blogs that give “Weekly match ups” so that you know where you can find the free and cheap deals!
I check the ads at back to school time every week, use coupons, and also throughout the year I shop for next year so its not all at one time
I clip coupons throughout the summer and buy the basics ahead of time.
I try to shop all year round so when it does come time for BTS I don’t have to buy everything at once! Pick things up while on sale and put them away for later!
My best tip is to max out the number of loss leader products (the ones that cost a penny or a dime, etc) you buy, even if you do not need all of them at the time. When you need them later in the year, you will be glad you have them on hand.
