Edge of the Past Interview with Jennifer Comeaux

Edge of the Past Author Jennifer ComeauxWelcome to Edge of the Past Author Jennifer Comeaux! Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer some questions about your life and book!

Jennifer Comeaux earned a Master of Accounting from Tulane University and is a Certified Public Accountant in south Louisiana. While working in the corporate world, she sought a creative outlet and decided to put on paper a story that had played in her head for years. That story became Life On the Edge, her first published novel.

When not working or writing, she is an avid follower of the sport of figure skating, travelling to competitions around the country. Those experiences allow her to see a different side of the sport and serve as an inspiration for her writing. Jennifer is blessed with a wonderful family and many friends who have encouraged her to pursue her dream of being a published author.

Edge of the Past Interview with Jennifer Comeaux:

If a movie was made about your book, who do you picture playing the lead roles? Why?
It would be an absolute dream if a movie was made about my book! I picture Kimberly Matula, who plays Hope on The Bold and the Beautiful, as Emily. As soon as I saw her on TV, I thought she had Emily’s “look.” For Sergei, it would have to be Josh Dallas, who plays Prince Charming on Once Upon a Time. He fits Sergei’s physical description perfectly and is totally swoon-worthy! :)

If you could have a first edition signed copy of any novel, what would it be and why?
I would love to have a first edition signed copy of To Kill a Mockingbird because that book made such an impact on me as a young reader. It remains my favorite book of all time. The characters and town were so real, and the story has stayed with me through the years.

Do you have plans for a new book? Goals for future projects?
I’m currently working on the third and final book in the EDGE series. It will wrap up Emily and Sergei’s journey and also tell Emily’s best friend Aubrey’s story as they all prepare for the 2006 Olympics. In the future, I’d like to write more books set in the skating world and tell the stories of some of the secondary characters from the EDGE series.

How did you come up with the title of the book?
I wanted to have “Edge” in the title to keep the common theme in the series, and since the story deals with Sergei’s past, the title came to me quickly!

At what point in your life did you decide you wanted to be a writer?
I started writing stories when I was a kid and had dreams of being a published author one day. As I got older, school and work became my focus and my writing dreams got pushed aside for a long time. It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I revisited that dream and started working to make it a reality. I’m so glad I decided to take the plunge!

If you could get front row tickets to watch any performance live, who would you like to go see?
I would love to see Coldplay, U2, or The Fray from the front row! I listen to those bands’ music over and over. I’ve seen Coldplay and The Fray in concert, and they were amazing! But I wasn’t close to the front row :)

What’s your ‘guilty pleasure’ TV show?
It used to be Pretty Little Liars, but the show has become so popular that I don’t think it’s considered a guilty pleasure anymore! I think my latest guilty pleasure would have to be Catfish: The TV Show on MTV. I’m fascinated by the online relationships and love watching the internet investigations.

Do you skip around, peek at the ending, or do you read straight through a book?
I read straight through a book, and I write the same way. Some authors I know write the ending first, but I have to write everything in order. I have ideas for the end, but I like to write all the scenes in order so I can experience the journey with the characters and try to feel their emotions.

Favorite places to vacation?
I could go to Boston and Cape Cod every year! I also love Vancouver, and I have a great friend in Los Angeles who I enjoy visiting a lot.

Give us a one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Edge of the Past is about a couple who thinks they’ve finally gotten past all the tough obstacles in their way, but now they’re bombarded with a new set of challenges that are tougher than any they’ve ever faced.

Where did the idea come from for the book?
After I finished my first book, Life on the Edge, I felt like there was more to explore with the characters of Emily and Sergei, and my editor suggested an idea for a sequel. I kicked it around with a few other ideas and decided to delve into Sergei’s intriguing past. This book can be read as a standalone or you can start from the beginning of Emily and Sergei’s love story in Life on the Edge!

What genre does your book fall under?
New Adult or Contemporary Romance
