Tethered Souls

I don’t know if you remember, but I reviewed Tethered Twins, the first book in this series, a few months ago and I absolutely loved it from top to bottom. Mike Essex’s dystopian world turned out to be unique and interesting with amazing kick-ass characters that it was impossible for me to put it down.

However, Tethered Souls instead of living up to its predecessor, falls down a step or two from being a great read. This has nothing to do with the plot in my opinion, I still believe this is the strongest point of both books as it once again kept me hooked and very much looking forward to the final installment.

My problem here was the characters and how they were developed. I felt them different, their personalities not how I remembered them at all. Be it from the main character, Emmie, or the other roles, some of their actions and thoughts would turn out to be too childish or too … simple for my taste. So definitely not the character growth I was expecting and anticipating.

Despite this, I know this story is still going somewhere huge. I really liked the ending, once again I was surprised and everything I thought I knew got turned upside down. I have to reach the end because I just need to know how it all wraps up, but my only hopes are that these characters learn to focus on what’s important and stop being so wishy washy. That’s not how my heroines (or heroes) are supposed to be and I KNOW they have it in them to be great.

About the Book:

Stalked by a masked figure through a city that is fracturing around her, Emmie Keyes must push herself to the limit in order to survive. This is the highly anticipated follow-up to Tethered Twins.

Carrying on after the unexpected, shocking ending to Tethered Twins, Emmie receives a message from someone who she thought was lost forever. She must return to the broken city of London in a search for answers.

With the help of the Deck, Grace, R&R and new allies, Emmie discovers secrets that have been buried beneath the city of London for centuries. But learning those secrets come at a cost and she must fight against opposing forces on the surface, deep underground and within her own body if she wants to survive. As the stakes are raised ever higher it becomes quickly apparent that sacrifices must be made to save those she loves and her rapidly crumbling world.

The only question is will those sacrifices destroy her or push her to discover strengths far greater than she could ever imagine?

  1. I love books that totally surprise you with the direction they go in, but the cover of this one looks a little creepy.
