Gabriel Stone and the Wrath of the Solarians Interview with Shannon Duffy:
Welcome to Cuzinlogic! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how long you’ve been writing?
Hi there, thanks for having me here today. =)
Well, I’m married with one son named Gabe and I have two dogs. One is German Shepherd and the other is a tiny Yorkshire Terrier. When I’m not writing or reading, I’m probably working out, shopping, or traveling the globe somewhere. As for how long I’ve been writing, I’ve always loved dabbling in a bit of writing from as far back as high school, but I first started *trying* to write a novel about ten years ago. Unfortunately, those pages were put aside not long after, but then I picked it up again and *really* dug in about six years ago.
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
First of all, I loved that I could make my son the hero of the story. I also loved being creative and writing a fantasy book where I could take the characters to another world. So. Much. Fun.
What’s your favorite quote about writing or reading?
“Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.” Anton Chekhov
If you could visit anywhere in the world for 1 week, where would you go?
Bora Bora. I haven’t been there yet, but hoping to go next year. I want to stay in one of the huts on those beautiful turquoise waters. Talk about serenity.
How many books have you written?
As of right now, I’ve written five.
Do you have any spring reading or writing plans?
Right now I’m reading Panic by Lauren Oliver and then I want to read, The One by Kiera Cass. I also love anything written by Jennifer Armentrout so I’ll definitely be trolling Goodreads for her latest.
Describe your writing environment for us.
Quiet! All authors write in different environments and some love to listen to music or write at Starbucks etc. For me, that would drive me completely crazy. I compare it to trying to watch a movie with the radio on or people chatting all around you. For me, when I’m writing, it’s like a movie in my mind so outside distractions make it impossible for me to write.
Most likely to __________ in high school?
If you could go back and talk to yourself when you were writing your first book, what advice would you offer?
Find out the word count for the genre before you start. Yes, right now. ;)
Who are some of your favorite authors?
Not counting my awesome critique partners, Lauren Oliver, Jennifer Armentrout, Jay Asher, Rick Riordan, J.K Rowling, Lauren Destefano, Addison Moore, Becca Fitzpatrick to name a few…
If you could get front row tickets to watch any performance live, who would you like to go see?
If you could require high school seniors to read one book, what would it be?
Other than mine? hehe. Hmmm, I’d say Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. I think it really sends a powerful message on how our words and actions can really affect others.
What’s your favorite thing about spring?
So many things. My son was born in the spring so it always reminds me of that happy time. The snow is melting, and the smell in the air. =)
What can your readers expect from you next?
I have a YA cyberpunk coming out next January with Entangled Publishing.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Just again, a big thanks for inviting me here today and thanks to every single reader out there.
Thanks Shannon, for joining us today and good luck with the Gabriel Stone Series.
