Welcome to Airel Author Aaron Patterson! Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer some questions about your life and book!
Aaron Patterson is a NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY bestselling author of over a dozen novels. He writes hard-boiled thrillers and young adult fantasy. He was home-schooled and grew up in the west. Aaron loved to read as a small child and would often be found behind a book, reading one to three a day on average. This love drove him to want to write, but he never thought he had the talent. He wrote Sweet Dreams, the first book in the WJA series, in 2008. Airel is his first teen series, and plans for more are in the works. He lives in Boise, Idaho with his family.
Airel Interview with Aaron Patterson:
Welcome to Cuzinlogic! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how long you’ve been writing?
I wrote my first book in 2008, before that I worked construction for 11 years. I was home schooled growing up and I have moved over 35 times. (Don’t tell the FBI where I live…=) I have 3 kids, 2 Savannah Cats and 5 chickens.
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
I like a challenge and writing from the POV of a 17 year old girl was a ton of fun. I hate to admit it but I listened to Taylor Swift to get in the teen mood… I’m not sure that will make you want to read the book or run for the hills. lol
If you could visit anywhere in the world for 1 week, where would you go?
Dubai (UAE), and I got to go there a few months ago, it was amazing!
What was the hardest part about writing this book?
Finishing it. The series has a world that is so huge I could go on for 20 books and there was a part of me that didn’t want it to end. Maybe one day I’ll wrote more, you never know.
How many books have you written?
so far…12. I have 10 new ones coming out this year though… yeah I am bored and have nothing to do.
Tell us something about the book or main character that isn’t mentioned in the synopsis.
Airel is flawed, she is a person who wants to do good, wants to be smart but sometimes falls just like you and me. I wanted to write a character who was real, and as weird as it is, she is to me.
Describe your writing environment for us.
1960’s chair in the living room, coffee and the TV in the background. Although I wrote most of the Airel saga in Starbucks.
How did you come up with the title for this book?
Airel and all the names in the book have history. Airel is from the old Hebrew, so is Michael, Kreios, and so on. I like having hidden things in my books that if you go all nerd on me you can find a few nuggets of gold.
If you could pick any one author, which one would you like to co-author a book with?
eBooks, hardcovers or paperbacks and why?
All of them! I read my Kindle in bed or on vacation, I read a paperback and listen to audio in the car, I am an addict, I need my fix and how I get it is not the thing, I just want my books!
What are the most words you have written in one day?
10k in 4 hours. One book in 4 days.
What genre do you write and why?
I write YA Paranormal, science fiction, thriller and I plan to write some romance this year along with a Historical thriller. I love all kinds of books and so I like to write all over the place too.
What do you do in your spare time?
I hike, garden, ride my Harley, travel, hang with the kitties and kids.
Describe the cover in 10 words or less.
Have you ever written anything that you thought would be controversial and found it wasn’t?
I am working on one now. Deals with slavery and the civil war.
What’s your ‘guilty pleasure’ TV show?
Ahem… so not telling. But there are 4 women…in New York. =)
What’s your favorite thing about spring?
What can your readers expect from you next?
I have a new dystopian series coming out… no title yet but it will be out this summer.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Thanks so much for letting me hang out with you all. Enjoy the series and please let me know what you think, I love reader feedback.
Thanks Aaron, for joining us today and good luck with your new dystopian series.
Airel: The Awakening is a young adult paranormal romance about the angel Kreios who falls so deeply in love with a woman that he chooses to fall from heaven to be with her. She gives birth to a daughter in Arabia, 1250BC. The girl is pursued ferociously, relentlessly by an enemy in the deepest darkness.
In present day, Boise, Idaho is just a girl: Airel. She’s just your average high school student…who turns out to be anything but average. It’s because of who she is, because of her ancestry, because of her lineage. Past and present collide as what has been twisted comes dangerously unraveled.
