A Death in Vegas

A Death in Vegas is a great little mystery thriller. The story follows poor Patton Burch, wrongly accused of murder, as he has to work to solve the crime himself, and defend his actions to his wife, who thinks he cheated on her with the murder victim, and who is being investigated herself, after being involved in a shady deal involving money laundering. Drama, drama, drama!

Patton is charged with murder following the murder of his employee, which just happened to occur in his hotel room, which he was in at the time. It seems pretty suspicious, but of course we readers know Patton had nothing to do with it! Forced to hide from the authorities, he takes off on a crazy trip, trying desperately to clear his name and reconnect with his wife at the same time. There is rarely a dull moment in the whole book. I won’t reveal the ending, but I definitely did not see some of the twists coming. It was very entertaining.

This book was really well written, which made it really easy to read through. The only problems I had were that it wasn’t long enough, so the story didn’t get a chance to develop fully, or at least it felt that way to me. And the character of Tess, Patton’s wife, is just not good in the beginning. She comes off as a big jerk, but it feels really forced or weird. She is way out of proportion upset for the situation. I found that really irksome, but their relationship evolved a little around the middle of the book, so I got over it. I would still really recommend reading this one!

Soon, the coroner doesn’t have good news. The police and FBI are against him—and his wife cannot be found. He flees to find the answers.

I like a story that is long enough too, I want something fully developed. But short reads are nice too. Makes you feel that you accomplished something! :D

  19. I LOVE mysteries!! The more twist & turns, the better. I heard that there was a lot of profanity in this book. Too much profanity & in-depth sex descriptions turn me off in a mystery, but I can over look it if it adds to the plot. I added this book to my must read shelf in Goodreads.
