Scion of the Sun Interview with Nicola Marsh:

Welcome to Cuzinlogic! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how long you’ve been writing?
I’m in Melbourne, Australia, and have been writing for 10 years (I was a physiotherapist for 13 years before that!) Writing is my dream job.
When I’m not chained to my keyboard, I’m running around after my boys.
Or have my nose firmly buried in a book.

Please tell us in 20 words or less, why we should read your book.
Druids. Ancient gods. Celtic mythology. Sexy warrior. Cute BFF. Teleportation. NYC’s ‘Innerworld.’ Sun sorority. Secrets galore.

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
The world building.
It was incredibly hard to keep track of Holly’s ‘normal’ life at C.U.L.T. (boarding school for the freakishly gifted) and her life at Eiros (NYC’s Innerworld where she teleports.) but also incredibly fun to develop worlds from scratch.

What kind of research (if any) did you have to do for this book?
A lot!
Once I started researching druids, the rest followed: Celtic mythology, the sun god Belenus, Ogham and so much more. The further I delved, the more ideas sparked.

What Inspired you to write this book?
The first paragraph popped into my head fully formed one day and I absolutely had to explore what a C.U.L.T. involved.

If you could visit anywhere in the world for 1 week, where would you go?
It’s definitely on my bucket list.

How many books have you written?
45. (43 contemporary romances, mostly for Harlequin, 2 YAs and my upcoming NA release, BEFORE.)

Tell us something about the book or main character that isn’t mentioned in the synopsis.
There’s a massive secret revealed toward the end of the book that is hinted at throughout the story.
Golden Eyes.
That’s all I’m saying…

Describe your writing environment for us.
A tiny office at home. No windows. Walls covered with collages and laminated book covers of my previous releases.
And the messiest desk you’ve ever seen!
Surrounded by boxes of books all over the floor, 3 filing cabinets and 3 massive bookcases overflowing with books.

How did you come up with the title for this book?
I originally titled the book Sorority of the Sun, because Holly being part of the sorority of the sun is key.
But ‘scion’ seemed a better fit later, because Holly is the progeny/heiress of the sun.
It’s perfect.

What makes this book different from other books in the same genre?
It’s a genuine mix of fantasy/paranormal/mystery/suspense/romance/action.
Hard to categorise!

eBooks, hardcovers or paperbacks and why?
Paperbacks, because I’ve always loved the smell of a new book.

Who are some of your favorite authors?
Lisa Gardner, Barbara O’Neal, Susan Elizabeth Philips, Harlan Coben

What genre do you write and why?
Contemporary romance for adults and spooky, riveting, supernatural stories for teens.
Because I like mixing it up!

What are your favorite movies and TV series based on books? Did you read the book before or after you saw the movie or TV series?
Harry Potter hands down.
I read all the books years before I saw the movies.
Both are addictive.

What makes a book appeal to you?
Strong characters.
Strong conflict.
Plenty of sparky dialogue.
Believable plot.
Sighworthy resolution.

Describe the cover in 10 words or less.
Spooky, eye-catching, mysterious, ethereal.

What’s your ‘guilty pleasure’ TV show?
Dancing with the Stars

What can your readers expect from you next?
My first New Adult novel, BEFORE, releases December 2nd. Here’s the blurb:

Good girls finish last? Screw that.

Being a small town girl isn’t so bad. Unless Mom’s the town joke and I’ve spent my entire life shying away from her flamboyance. College in Las Vegas should be so much cooler. But it’s not. Bad things happen there. Real bad.

So when my big brother Reid offers me an all-expenses paid vacation to Australia for a month, I am so there. Discounting the deadly snakes on the outback cattle station, I should be safe. Until I meet Jack.

Jack defines bad boy and then some. And the guy can cook. He’s big, buffed, bronzed, and hotter than any guy I’ve ever met. And his sexy Aussie accent makes me melt.

But he’s my brother’s new bestie and he lives on the other side of the world. There’s no future for us.
Is there?

Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
There are a lot of authors out there and a zillion books, so reviews matter.
If you enjoy Scion of the Sun, please take the time to leave a review on Amazon, B&N, Goodreads, etc…

Thanks Nicola, for joining us today and good luck with your New Adult novel, BEFORE!
